Reparations

A reparation is to make amend for wrongdoings by paying money to or helping those who have been wronged. When I think of reparations, I think of America’s history with throwing money at situations and people who have been hurt in an effort to solve the problem. I think of slavery and the reconstruction era and how people were given settlements as though that would erase the endless pain and suffering, they had endured. I think of the Central Park Five who after being wrongfully convicted were only settled with about $41 million as if that would erase the emotional distress, they faced for all the years spent behind bars.

While reparations can be a good thing, in the sense that they seek to help the wrong/victim, it still doesn’t take away the pain and suffering endured as seen in the history of our country America.
